The Moment and The Question

What if the questions we ask reveal more about us than the answers we seek? In John 9, we encounter a man born blind, and the first instinct of those around Jesus is to assign blame -- was it his sin or his parents' sin that caused his condition? This sermon invites us to examine that impulse honestly, because we all carry it. We live in a world that defaults to blame, and when we do, we miss the deeper question entirely. Jesus redirects everyone around him toward discernment -- the practice of detecting and recognizing where God is actually at work. The blind man's healing becomes less about a miraculous moment and more about learning to ask the right question in every moment: where is God in this? That shift in thinking, from blame to discernment, has the power to transform how we see our suffering, our circumstances, and each other.
