The Power of Praying Parents
Looking back over the years I realize what a blessing it was for having Christian parents. They walked the walk and talked the talk. They were not perfect but I knew that they loved the Lord and they loved their children, all of us, all seven of us!
We attended Sunday services, and Youth gatherings. My dad was the Youth Pastor for many years. For us it was never a “chore”. Our parents made it a lifestyle to serve the Lord. We worshipped together, played and prayed together. Our house was always full of friends and kids from the neighborhood, the church or on Sunday’s my parents would bring some of the elderly people to have lunch with us. What a wonderful example they set for us to serve and to love our neighbors.
Every night when we were in bed and peace and quiet filled the house, I would hear my parents praying, lifting each one of us up, by name, to the Lord in prayer. Often I would think how do they do that, after a full day of work, school work, daily chores and all the things that parents do. How do they manage to stay so faithful? Often I would use the excuse that I am too tired to read my Bible and pray, yet my parents were never too tired to pray for us and I know now it was because they made it a priority.
Even after all of us kids got married and moved out, when we went back home to visit and stayed overnight, we could still hear our parents praying for us by name including our spouse and children. Although my dad passed away I know my mom still prays for me and my family by name every night!
At the age of ten I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. There were times that I strayed, and by the Grace of God and loving parents that prayed for me, I was always under His protection. In my early twenties I recommitted my life to the Lord and still strive to serve Him with all my heart and my soul and mind.
Knowing that my parents prayed for me daily sustained me and carried me through life and knowing what a comfort it was and still is to me, I lift my child up to the Lord in prayer every day.
I thank the Lord for my Praying Parents.
