How God showed up at Chick-fil-A
While working in the Chick-fil-A dining room, Donna Benson sees many people, many moments, and many lives touched. Read her story below to see how God showed up at work one day.
Working in the Dining Room at ChickFilA Northlake, I’ve found that God always shows up just at the right time. Recently, as I arrived for my shift, I was told that one of the guests had been brought in by a Good Samaritan who had found him by the side of the road looking very puzzled and dispondant. He said that he was thumbing to Florida but he was very hungry and needed to let his wife know where he was going. The gentleman brought him to ChickFilA but was running late for an important appointment and would return to pay for the traveler’s meal.
Before I arrived, one of the young team members asked if she could get him anything, he gave her his phone and asked her to call his wife. Much to the young lady’s surprise when she dialed the phone number, his wife told her that he had walked out of the Alzheimer’s unit of a care facility in Mooresville. She asked that we please keep him there until a Sherriff’s Deputy came to get him. In the meantime, they contacted the Charlotte Police department and a policeman was dispatched. As my coworker returned to her normal duties, I took her place in the Dining Room. After asking if I could get him anything several times, he would only raise his head and say no. The Charlotte policeman arrived and ordered some food. He then went to the man and asked if he could join him to which the man nodded yes. The policeman then began to engage him in conversation. The policeman was very kind to him and he began to respond. The Mooresville Deputy soon arrived and he too ordered food and asked if he could join them. After a good meal and conversation, the Deputy said “How about I take you back to your wife so that she won’t be worried about you. I’m sure she’d miss you if go to Florida without her.” The Charlotte policeman then said, “I’m going to go buy a chicken sandwich for you to take back to your wife. We don’t want her to be mad at you!” The gentleman smiled and said “Thank You”.
Not long after the trio were on their way, the Good Samaritan returned to pay the gentlemen’s food. Of course, being ChickFilA, he was told there was no charge and was given a free ChickFilA lunch. This is just one example of how God uses us to do His work and how He uses ordinary people in extraordinary ways!!!
