WHAT ARE GUPPIES?
Small fish – correct? Well, for UCUMC, GUPPIES are actually small FISH (remember First-steps In Serving Him). FISH is our Missions program we hold twice per year with many opportunities to serve on one date. Response to these dates has been fantastic!
With GUPPIES (or small FISH), we plan to continue the FISH theme by offering at least one missions opportunity to serve every month (i.e. a small FISH event). Some months there may be several individual events on different dates. The number of volunteer slots will vary with each event. Our goal is to continually provide our membership opportunities to serve our local community via missions all year long. Each month will be different opportunities providing a variety of events with something for everyone.
Check back here frequently and watch the weekly UCUMC News for opportunities to sign up for GUPPIES. We plan to keep two to three months of opportunities planned so you can always find an activity to join. Please check below for the upcoming opportunities.
September Guppies:
Wheelchair Ramp Build
UCUMC is supporting a wheelchair ramp build on Saturday, September 11, 2010. This mission will help a permanently disabled person in financial need who can no longer access their home without a wheelchair. UCUMC has paid for the materials and now we need your help to build it! A Love INC Volunteer will supervise the build and provide all the necessary tools, but feel free to bring your own. No experience is necessary. Be prepared to work 5 to 6 hours starting at 8:00AM. The Charlotte area home site will be communicated to volunteers closer to the event date. Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years of age to use power tools. For additional information, sign up below and a UCUMC volunteer will contact you. For more information on Love INC in general, visit http://www.loveinc.org/

Breakfast for Charlotte Rescue Mission
UCUMC is supporting a breakfast at the Charlotte Rescue Mission (CRM) on Sunday, September 26, 2010. This mission opportunity consists of meal preparation, delivery, and cleanup at CRM's uptown location for 132 of its clients. CRM (http://www.charlotterescuemission.org) provides residential programs for homeless, jobless men and women with alcohol and drug addiction issues. With some of the group's volunteers arriving at 6:30 - 7:00, preparations begin for an 8:00 - 8:45 breakfast. Cleanup is normally completed by 9:00 thus, allowing for attendance at worship services that day. This mission opportunity is suited for 7 - 25 volunteers with no age restrictions.
