Beginnings of Discipleship

Our Beginnings of Discipleship Class, "Beginnings" is a great way to begin learning about University City United Methodist Church (UCUMC) and how God has made you.  Beginnings is 2 sessions, held as scheduled below and provides an overview of our mission as a church and helps you determine your best next step. You will learn about and discover ways you can use your spiritual giftedness to serve others in many ways.  Click here to register or call 704-369-8018 for information. In order to plan the care of your children, please let us know if you will need childcare by the Wednesday prior to the first class.

How Can I Become a Member of UCUMC?

The best way for you to become a Christ follower through membership at University City United Methodist Church is through our Beginnings of Discipleship Class. These sessions are designed for anyone who has been visiting the church and wishes to explore the beliefs, vision, and opportunities available.

University City United Methodist Church invites into church membership any person who desires to know Christ and make Christ known. As in any other congregation of The United Methodist Church, you may join our fellowship at University City United Methodist Church through any of the following methods:

• By transfer from another Christian church. This category is appropriate when you are on the active roll of another Christian church, have been baptized, and simply wish to transfer your membership here.  We accept the rich heritage of faith you bring with you to the University City Church, and therefore, you do not need to be re-baptized. If you are coming from another United Methodist Church, we simply ask you to take a vow of loyalty to the work of Christ at University City Church.

• By reaffirmation of your faith in Christ. This category is appropriate either when you desire an opportunity to renew and/or refresh your commitment to Christ, or when you have been inactive in your former church for a period of time.  In either case, we will lead you through the renewal of your membership vows.

• By profession of your faith in Jesus Christ. This category is appropriate if you have been previously baptized, but have never actually joined a church.   Also, if you have neither joined a church nor been previously baptized this category applies and we will be happy to baptize you into the body of Christ.  In both cases we are glad to ask you the vows of church membership.

In addition, for those who desire to retain their membership in another church outside of Charlotte, an Affiliate membership (for current United Methodists) or an Associate membership (for current non-United Methodists) is also an available option.

 

The Vows of Church Membership

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and pledge allegiance to His kingdom?

Do your receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the Bible?

Do you promise according to the grace given to you to live a Christian life and always remain a faithful member of Christ's holy church?

Will you be loyal to The United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service?
