The Message of Reconciliation
Genesis 1: 26-27
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
We are created in the image of God. We are created in the likeness of God. Therefore, innately, who we are was intended to be a direct reflection of God. Our heart is intended to be like God’s heart.
22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
Mankind chose to be disobedient to God. Even though we are created in God’s image we have been separated from Him. We are born into this world with a sinful nature yet we yearn to be reconciled with our creator. Our heart yearns be as it was originally created to be.
So we live our lives seeking to fill this hole in ourselves. Some try and fill it with success, some with affirmation, some with drugs and alcohol, some with relationships, some with service, some with money, some with food, some with status. The list is endless but none of these things can fill this gap.
There is only one thing that can make us whole again. There is only one thing that can satisfy our hearts yearning to be reconciled with our creator. Jesus.
2nd Corinthians 5: 17-19
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:[a] The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
This is what the My Hope campaign is all about. There are people all around us searching to fill the gap in their life with something other than Jesus. “And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”
