God Can Use Anyone...Even Me...Even You!!
When I was 14 years old (in April of 1981) some people came to our church and stayed with us for the entire weekend. They took us to the park and we played games, had a cookout and we talked about our faith…more specifically they shared their faith in God with us. There was a 19 year old sophomore from North Carolina State University…his name was Pat Teague…he played on the football team and he stayed at our house. Of course, I thought he was awesome because he played college football…so I listened to everything he said during that weekend!! He talked about how being a Christian was more than just going to church or trying to be good…it was about knowing Jesus and having a relationship with Him.
I was one of those “good Kids”…I went to church all the time, I made good grades, I played on the junior high football team and I didn’t do any “bad stuff” (i.e. drink, smoke, do drugs, have sex, etc.)…although I could be pretty mischievous when I wanted to! During that weekend, I came to realize that I knew about Jesus but I didn’t really know Him…I had heard the stories in Sunday school, we said the blessing before meals and I was a “good” person but I wasn’t trusting in Jesus for my eternity. That Saturday night in a house we called the “Activities Building” that was located beside our church I acknowledged Jesus as God’s Son, confessed my sins, received the forgiveness He offers through His death on the cross and resurrection and my life has never been the same. I don’t always get it right…in fact, I get it wrong a lot but my ultimate desire is to follow Jesus and serve Him by serving others and sharing with them just like Pat shared with me…from his own personal experiences with Jesus.
I never saw Pat again after that weekend but I know that God used him to help me see and understand how much God loves me and wants to be in relationship with me. The Lord has brought many other people into my life to help me to continue to grow in my relationship with Him and I am thankful for all of them, but I am eternally grateful to a 19 year old college football player for giving a weekend out of his life to serve God by sharing his faith with me! If you are willing to give God the opportunity, He will use you as well…all you have to do is make yourself available…I HOPE you will!!
