Finish the Wall (Judea)
19 days until REACH 2015! Today’s featured mission agency is Finish the Wall (Judea – The United States)
Finish the Wall was founded in 2004 and is based in Charlotte. Finish the Wall takes its name from the story of Nehemiah, and his vision to complete the wall around Jerusalem, which had fallen into disrepair. Their inspiration is from Paul’s words to the church in Corinth, “Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means.” (II Cor. 8:11)
The purpose of this non-profit organization is to complete unfinished churches and other humanitarian efforts that were started, but have been left without a plan for funding or completing the project. Finish the Wall has completed six projects in Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago
Their first project was in Barbados in 2004 when a team of men spent a week working on a 12,000 sq. foot building that had been a work in progress for twelve years. Eventually Finish the Wall completed this building. They usually finish one project per year sending teams of fifteen people for approximately a week at a time until the project is complete.
Churches and organizations can commit to recruiting an entire team or any part of a team. Individuals can participate with or without a church partnership. Children must be at least 14 years of age to participate with their parent or relative. In order to participate without a parent, a volunteer must be 18 years or older.
Currently, the ministry has partnered with the Hoskins Park Ministries to build a home that is a continuation of several homes built last year. Construction began in July and will be completed in October. Finish the Wall volunteers will build a home that is used to help transition the homeless and provide support. Finish the Wall helped finish the 13th home in this community last year. In 2016 a trip to Honduras is planned to work at the Ministerio de Ninos el Nuevo Eden (Children’s Ministry of the New El Eden) in El Eden, Honduras.
