Day 7 - The Lord's Supper
“While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after blessing it, He broke it and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body.’ And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them saying, ‘Drink from it all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for man for forgiveness of sins. I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.’” --Matthew 26:26-29
We still take communion together as a way of remembering and giving thanks for what Christ did for us on the cross, but we also take it to look forward to the promise that He made that He will return to welcome us into God’s perfect kingdom. Jesus promised to return, and when He does, those of us who follow Him will be with Him in His full presence forever.
We will continue to investigate more about God’s kingdom in the coming weeks, but to end this week of study, spend some time in prayer talking to God about what you have learned. What is the most important thing from this week that you need to remember?
