Hands On Work
Read the Story below to see how REACH 2015 inspired Drew Nivens.
During the REACH Event held at UCUMC in October, I was really inspired by the stories and personal testimonies of the missionaries and agency representatives present. After the men’s breakfast meeting, I felt the call of the Holy Spirit upon me to do something tangible to help with an agency spreading the Gospel to others. I prayed about what I could do and before long I received a response. For the last two years Mary Ann and I have been sending used Sunday School material to Love Packages in Butler, Illinois. This is an organization that collects used and new Christian literature, sorts and packages it, and then sends it by shipping container to foreign countries. I suddenly felt a need to go to Illinois to help these people and do it as soon as I could. So, I made all of the arrangements and set out for Butler, Illinois. I worked at Love Packages during the week of November 9-13. During my week there, I packed boxes of Bibles, books, reference books, Sunday School material, and devotional books for shipment to other countries. One day I helped pack a shipping container with 20 tons of literature for shipment to Kenya. This was an awesome experience for me. I was told that each piece of literature had the potential of being touched by at least twenty people and here we were sending 20 tons!
Truly, I was doing what I wanted to do – “hands-on” work to spread the Gospel. Talk about strengthening my faith! These folks are doing a tremendous job and are very passionate about their work. They really inspired me to actively seek others to donate used Bibles and other Christian literature to them for recycling. I encourage those who may read this to check them out at www.lovepackages.org.
