BAPTISMS:
Sacraments are actions that connect us to the mystery of God’s love and grace and call us to respond in faith. In baptism, we are born of the Spirit and are positioned in Christ and become joint heirs with Christ according to the promise made to Abraham. Through baptism, we become a new creation in Christ, are accepted into the family of God and as such, we become joint heirs with Christ (Galatians 3: 26-29).
Baptism is the outward and visible sign of our covenant (holy agreement) with God to accept God’s gifts of freedom and power and to grow in faith through the constant efforts of the Holy Spirit and the lifelong practice of “faith”.
In the United Methodist Church, baptism is a communal celebration; the congregation vows to nurture and support those being baptized – adults or infants. Baptism is only done once. To schedule a baptism or for more information contact Ria Holtzhausen – 704-369-8015 rholtzhausen@ucumc.org.
WEDDINGS
“We affirm the sanctity of the marriage covenant that is expressed in love, mutual support, personal commitment, and shared fidelity between a man and a woman. We believe that God’s blessing rest upon such marriage, whether or not there are children of the union. We reject social norms that assume different standards for women than for men in marriage. We support laws in civil society that define marriage as the union of one man and one woman“. The Book of Discipline of the UMC – 2012.
